Internet of Things (IoT) has been established as the technology term that describes an ecosystem where physical objects (or groups of such objects) are embedded with sensors and, occasionally, processing power, middle/software, and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet or other communications networks.
The field has evolved due to the convergence of multiple technologies, including ubiquitous computing, commodity sensors, increasingly powerful embedded systems, and machine learning. One of the most basic uses of the IoT is to connect devices to the Internet so they can report their status or their local environment.
The depth and breadth of IoT applications are creating new opportunities, providing new markets for existing businesses, and improving operational efficiencies.
